4 Levels of Vehicle Condition
Some Appraisers use a 4 level condition scale when appraising a classic vehicle. These are the levels and what they mean.
- Concours: The visual image is the best vehicle in the right colors, driving onto the lawn at the finest Concours. Perfectly clean, the vehicle is correct and detailed down to the tire treads.
- Excellent: Seasoned and trained observers will have to look closely for flaws and imperfections not seen by the general public. The paint, chrome, glass, interior, engine bay and chassis will appear to be excellent.
- Good: Most vehicles will be in this classification (more or less). The vehicle runs and drives well but might have some incorrect parts, modifications or minor imperfections. These vehicles are not for daily use but are ready for a long tour without any issues.
- Fair: Flaws are visible to the naked eye, chrome may have pitting or scratches, the glass may have chips or hazing. The paint may have parking lot dings, orange peel or bubbling from rust beginning to come through. Should start but may not drive safely because of brake issues.
Note: Some vehicles fall between these numbers and are considered a level that is in-between.
Meet Bill Bonadio
Bill Bonadio’s love for cars started young. At just 18, he built his first custom car—a project that didn’t just turn heads but also landed him in a national automotive magazine. That early success sparked a lifetime passion for creating, restoring, and protecting classic cars.
By 1977, Bill was working at Ron Stevens Ford, learning the ropes as a salesman and sharpening his skills through Ford Motor Company’s appraisal training program. His hands-on knowledge of car construction and repair made him a go-to resource, and he pushed further by completing advanced courses to master the art of appraising.
In 1991, Bill took his dream a step further by starting Diocars, where he designed and built his own kit cars and trucks. His work earned national recognition, along with numerous awards in the kit car industry. More than 30 years later, Diocars remains one of the oldest and most respected kit car companies still running today.
Never one to stop at just building cars, Bill founded OKC Auto Appraisers in 1999. His mission was simple—help fellow classic car enthusiasts protect their investments. Whether it’s making sure an insurance policy reflects the true value of a car or fighting for fair payouts after a total loss, Bill has always stood in the corner of car owners.
Today, with over four decades of experience, Bill combines his passion, craftsmanship, and expertise to give every appraisal the care it deserves. For him, this isn’t just a job—it’s about honoring the cars, the people who love them, and the stories they carry.
